Parents can be very skeptical in believing that their kids can benefit from sitting in front of a TV or computer playing violent shooting games. However, many studies have proven that shooting games can indeed benefit the brain in many different ways. A specific cognitive benefit that many people might not believe is that shooting games can improve vision. Some other benefits of shooting games on the brain are: Increased hand-eye coordination skills, improved attention allocation, and improved neural processing and efficiency. In a study by Sijing Wu, a Ph.D. student, he observed, "After playing the shooter game, the changes in electrical activity were consistent with brain processes that enhance visual attention and suppress distracting information." The cognitive benefits gained through playing video games are also helpful in everyday tasks. Having superior visual attention is important in activities such as driving a car, piloting an airplane or just simply being more aware of your surroundings.
