The benefits of exercise is well known, but some people might ask, "what's the point of exercise games when you can just exercise?" However, if that's the case, then why are more than 35% of American adults are obese? What exercise video games offer isn't the intensity of the workout that typical exercise offers, but it offers entertainment. Many people who play exercise games do not play them for the exercise, but rather for the fun. Without realizing it, they're setting a foundation for a healthier lifestyle and at the same time, have fun. Playing video games have always been stereotyped as a sedentary activity, but because of exercise video games, researchers compared the calories burned to moderate exercises. In a article written by Cristen Conger, researchers observed that playing Wii Sports actually burned a considerable amount of calories. "125 calories in 15 minutes of boxing, 92 calories in 15 minutes of Tennis, and 77 calories in 15 minutes of Bowling." Even though the numbers might not appear high, it is still better than sitting at the couch watching TV. Exercise games can be the future to a healthier and active America.
