As I was growing up, reading books was never my thing. The way that I learned to read was through video games; role playing games to be specific. Role-playing games are different from other types of video games due to the fact that most players play for the story, and adventure. Players are indulged in the story, and will feel obligated to read the text of the game. Playing a role playing game is similar to reading a book, and it also gives similar cognitive benefits. In the article, "The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games" it was stated that "Role-playing games are actually quite beneficial. It encourages imagination, creativity, reading, group cooperation, social interaction, and the benefit of mutual assistance even with diverse racial perspectives." Gamers who play role-playing games develop skills that are useful for the outside world, such as creativity and improvement in literacy level. These skills are difficult to develop, and many kids or students might not have the motivation to find alternatives such as reading a book, or writing in a notebook.
